an introduction, if you will
Kate was born on a Friday the 13th so you know she was set for a spooky life. From a young age, she loved reading teen pulp like Sweet Valley High, horror like Fear Street, and mysteries with Nancy Drew. During this time, she began a modest habit of writing, scribbling in composition notebooks.
Kate attended Agnes Scott College, a women’s liberal arts college in Decatur, Georgia where she focused on Classical Civilization and Religious Studies. (It was the closest thing to "men's studies" at a women's college, right?) Pursuing a career in none of that, she started the disastrous job hunt during the 2008 Great Recession and eventually stumbled upon a tech start-up willing to take a risk on a liberal arts major with experience teaching technical skills.
In 2013, Kate ran away and sailed around the world. She took a sabbatical from her job and was hired by the study abroad program as a staff member. During this voyage, she traveled to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Singapore, Burma, India, Mauritius, South Africa, Ghana, Morocco, and Spain in the span of four months before someone broke it to her that reentry shock was a real thing. Eventually, she came back only to volunteer with WAKE International in Cambodia and Perú for their Tech2Empower programs. Australia was pretty cool, too.
Kate resides in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
